It was initially started in 2010, cancelled, and then was restarted again in late summer 2014. Since then, it has been in progress and should be out really soon.
What is it?
coupbit is an upcoming operating system forked from Haiku, as there are differences that I wish to make and add, which cannot be in the Haiku OS.
What is different about it?
- Restores a writable filesystem. If you've used Haiku nightlies recently, you've probably experienced the frustrating read-only filesystem that takes away your control (and coincides with the new Depot-centric design). coupbit won't do that to you, because we have a different philosophy.
- New look and feel. coupbit will have a new icon set, system font, and a new visual style, along with a new web shell as well.
- Accessibility. Initial support for speech and other ease of access features will be in coupbit.
- Editions. A mainline edition and a 'hybrid' edition with gnu/Linux will be available for better choice and hardware support.
